Midwifery is a partnership between you and your midwife.  I will supply you with information, sound clinical advice, responsible care and I will work with you to make the decisions that are right for you and your family.

  • Home birth is many times safer than hospital birth for low risk women with competent care providers.

  • Home birth reduces medical interventions without increasing the risks to mothers or babies.

  • Maternal and fetal outcomes are extremely positive when birth is watched by a care provider and minimal interventions are used.

With the benefits come the risks.

Birth has certain inherent risks no matter where it takes place.  Statistically, the risk of a homebirth is no greater than in the hospital, but the risks are different.  There is a focus in midwifery care on the prevention of complications and also foreseeing complications before they present or become dangerous.  This is achieved through comprehensive, individualized prenatal care and continuity through pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum.

Most complications can be prevented or anticipated.  Some indicate a hospital transfer while others can be successfully managed at home.

As with every other major life choice, you must be clear about your reasons for choosing a home birth: while you enjoy the distinct advantages of home birth, you must also be willing to assume full responsibility for accepting its attendant risks.

Home birth is not for everyone.

I would never put a family at risk by taking on a client whom I felt was not a good fit for home birth care.

I work with integrity, and am responsible to the families I serve.

I treat all my clients with respect and compassion, and keep all information concerning their care confidential.

I provide the services as stated above with thoughtful consideration to each client’s situation and individual needs, keeping in mind the health and safety of both mother and baby.
